How to Install a Sump Pump in 6 Easy Steps

Installing a sump pump can be a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be. With the right tools and knowledge, you can easily install a sump pump in just six steps.

Step 1: Gather Your Tools

Before you begin installing your sump pump, make sure you have all of the necessary tools and materials on hand. You will need a drill, drill bits, screws, screwdriver, level, pliers, pipe wrench, PVC glue and primer, PVC pipe and fittings, check valve and sump pump.

Step 2: Prepare the Pit

The first step is to prepare the pit for installation. Measure the pit's diameter and depth to ensure that your sump pump will fit properly. Once you've determined that it will fit properly, use a shovel or other digging tool to dig out any dirt or debris from the pit. Make sure that the bottom of the pit is level so that your sump pump will sit securely when installed.

Step 3: Install the Check Valve

Once your pit is ready for installation, it's time to install the check valve. This valve prevents water from flowing back into your basement after it has been pumped out of your home. To install it correctly, attach one end of the check valve to an elbow fitting on one side of your PVC pipe and then attach the other end of the check valve to an elbow fitting on the other side of your PVC pipe.

Step 4: Connect Your PVC Pipe

Next up is connecting your PVC pipe together with fittings and glue. Begin by cutting two pieces of PVC pipe that are long enough to reach from where you plan on placing your sump pump in your basement all the way up to where you plan on connecting it outside of your home. Once you have cut these pieces of PVC pipe to size, use glue and fittings to connect them together until they form one continuous piece of pipe running from inside your home outwards towards where you plan on connecting it outside. Make sure all connections are secure before moving onto step 5.

Step 5: Install Your Sump Pump

Now that all connections are secure it's time to install your sump pump into its designated spot in your basement or crawlspace flooring. Place it inside its designated spot making sure that it sits securely without any wobbling or movement when pressure is applied against it from below or above ground level. Use screws or other fasteners if necessary for extra security if needed once installed inside its designated spot in order for it not move around when pressure is applied against it from below ground level or above ground level when pumping water outwards away from home during heavy rainfalls or flooding events etc..

Step 6: Test Your Sump Pump

The last step is testing out your newly installed sump pump by filling up a bucket with water and then pouring this water into its designated spot in order for its float switch mechanism (if applicable) to activate its motorized pumping system which should then start pumping this water outwards away from home towards wherever you plan on connecting this system outside such as towards a nearby storm drain etc.. If everything works as expected then congratulations! You have successfully installed a new sump pump in just 6 easy steps!
